Women Cross Border Traders Project

AGRIFOP implemented a one-year project for Capacity building of women cross border traders in Rwanda, Burundi, Tanzania and Uganda at the Kagitumba, Mirima, Rusumo and Nemba borders, funded by USAID-Feed the Future Program through East African Trade and Investment Hub, Grant No G-Nai-040 with DAI LLC.
The project had the following two main objectives: • Building the capacity of women cross border traders as well as facilitating business linkages between traders, financial institutions, and buyers of maize and Beans and horticultural products. • Strengthening Women Cross Border Trader associations to better serve their members as a way of enhancing cross border trade, facilitate associations to be recognized in the JBCs and join the East Africa Cross Border Traders Association which will help the associations voices to be heard at the EAC level.

Project achievements

  • Number of women trained (96.7% of target).
  • Number of business linkage workshops (100%of target).
  • Number of Executive Committee members of border women traders trained (97% of target)
  • Number of advocacy events organized(100% of target)
